Yamaha FGDP - Something truly different
►► FREE finger drumming lessons → questforgroove.com/
Yamaha recently came out with the FGDP-30 and FGDP-50. Two devices that are made specifically for finger drumming, with onboard sounds, an onboard speaker, running on battery power and rocking an innovative and at the same time intuitive pad layout. I ofcourse got my hands on both FGDP devices ASAP and present my findings in this video.

    Wow. You nailed it. You are 100% correct. Neurons that fire together wire together. This is Neuroscience 101. Muscle memory is not muscle memory but motor patterns captured by the brain hence by associating a new pattern or biofeedback to an already established motor pattern, it does increase retention, second nature, coordination. The brain doesn't have to create a new imprint of it so to speak. We are piggy backing on an already established one. This is why for example mnemonics, image or memory association of anything works as a memory hack. This is also why NLP anchoring hack which is associating a bio feedback to a state or can be extended to even memory recall or non-recall or deletion, association, de-association. For example trauma, memory, personality can be changed under an hour in an NLP session. This is all with the same principle of association. This is the same thing hypnotists use so that people forget their example: name, age, etc. they can't say a specific word, the could not remember a thing 100% correct. I'm an NLP Certified Coach but I didn't realized this parallel to drumming practice until this video.

    Hi, great review!! 👏 I purchased one FGDP50 last year but I only received it here in Brazil last month, and was really disappointed with the pad sensitivity as you mentioned, but today I had an ideia to improve it and it really worked a lot for my unit!!! I turned OFF AFTERTOUCH for all pads except cymbals that I want to choke and it improved the sensitivity a lot!!! I then DECREASED the gain for snare and hihat pads to around 36 and assigned curve splice 23 to them and heavy 2 to the rest of the pads to have more range of volume. I am so happy now with the FGDP50 that regret that I purchased one Maschine Mikro because of that. Let me know if it works for your unit too…

    • @TheQuestforGroove
      @TheQuestforGroove Місяць тому

      I noticed you can change a lot of settings, and some of them will give an improvement if they make the pads respond better to your playing style. However, I have not found a way to make the "soft touches" trigger better. That just does not seem to be possible.

    I lived 1 apartment below Legendary finger drummer Exile while I was studying media in LA a good few decades ago. Anyway his crazy Mexican gf threw his MPC 2KXL down the stairs of the flats 1day, it must of did 4 flights, it ended up below the ground floor at the basement which was at the time flooded. I lunged it out of about 4ft of full submersion in dirty water, I had to put my head under the water to get it. When he came back to the building later that night after a heated argument with his Mrs, I knocked and explained I'd retrieved the MPC from under water after it had bounced down every flight of stairs. He told me it was a goner and to keep it as souvenir of my time in LA. Over the next few days I dried all the components out, and guess what! It worked!!! And it's still working to this day! It's been to 3 different continents, I was literally playing it yesterday, it looks like it's been to the bottom of the ocean and in a fight with Mike Tyson, but it works like new.

    Nice guy and a good finger drummer but is this missing a crucial important point I must point out to any beginners to stop you from being extremely disappointed, the Novation will not do anything without a computer or ios device and an audio interface Ok Obvious to most people but this is for any poor individual who will go off and purchase this little keyboard and spend days trying to find out why they can’t hear their Porcaro fingerings It is just a controller keyboard and has no internal sounds
